From October to the beginning of December, "Ayu fish traps" are built across the clear waters of the Gokase River, a traditional method of fishing that has continued for over 300 years. You can enjoy the taste of autumn at Ayu restaurants set up along the river, with such cuisine as boiled rice with sweetfish, miso roasted sweetfish, and salted roasted sweetfish with roe.
The scent of roasting sweetfish that wafts along the shore of the river, has also been selected as one of Japan's "Best 100 Fragrant Scenes".

The local speciality, sweetfish with roe on rice, is an extravagant dish. It features one sweetfish with roe stewed in soy sauce and sugar, then placed on boiled rice with sweetfish which is mixed with finely chopped ginger and the flesh of shredded roasted sweetfish.
