Iwaguma Barrage

Iwaguma Barrage

During the Kyoho Era, about 270 years ago, the daimyo (Japanese feudal lord) at the time had Kenmotsu Fujie build this barrage. It is a prominent barrage for agriculture in Miyazaki Prefecture. Almost all the farmers in the area had a very poor crop from lack of water for a long time in that period. However, owing to the barrage's completion, they could receive the benefit of plenty more water to cultivate their paddy fields. From then on, agriculture in Nobeoka developed very rapidly.
