The Kitaura Area is situated at almost the centre of the Nippou Coast Quasi-National Park.

Kitaura, "abounding in rich nature and human warmth," embarked upon the development of a shore type resort, which utilises the untouched nature the area has been blessed with, and established the Shimo Aso Beach Resort, "Hamayuu Village".
