The limpid water of the Gokase River runs almost through the centre of Nobeoka City, located in the northern part of Miyazaki Prefecture. " Ayu Yana", traditional sweetfish weirs are set over the river and are a common sight in the fall.

The "Kawazuru Yana Restaurant" opens along the Gokase River during the sweetfish season, serving Ayu cuisine with natural flavours. Ayu are called "fragrant fish" due to their beautiful colour and pleasant aroma, and their special taste cannot be enjoyed without visiting such an area where sweetfish have been freshly caught. Without being a food connoisseur, it is one of the flavours of autumn that you really want to taste.
