Yukichi Goto was born in Minami-machi, Nobeoka in 1896 (Meiji 29). After graduating from Junior High School (of the old system) he left for Tokyo to study aeronautics and aviation, obtaining Japanese piloting licenses in 1921 (Taisho 10).
Following this he successfully completed the first round-trip over Japan in 1924 (Taisho 13).
However, in 1928 (Showa 3), almost on the verge of a trans-Pacific crossing, he fell to his death in the mountains of Saga Prefecture whilst in training. He was merely 33 years old when he met his death.
